To create your new skill, go to the Amazon developer portal, and click on the "Add New Skill" button, up there in the top right. To set up the skill and deploy the Lambda function, you'll need to set up a developer account at the developer portal. Please note that Alexa-Hue requires a server running all the time (or all the time you want to control your lights with Alexa.)

  • A server on your local network that does have access your Hue Bridge.
  • An Amazon Alexa Lambda function - thanks to Matt Kruse - on AWS that just passes your skill requests onto.

  • An Alexa "skill" that you set up in the Amazon Developer's portal.
  • Since Amazon does not give 3rd party developers a way to access your local network, we need a bit of a workaround. But this Alexa program gives you much more control: change colors, recall scenes, save scenes, set timers, turn on dynamic effects (color loops and alerts) and, of course, turn them on and off and dim them. For example, on Govee, you can customize the light animation styles and colors, not just movie/music mode + tuning intensity, saturation, and brightness.Well, you already can turn them on and off and dim them with Alexa. You can do all of this with Philips Hue alone but it’s more expensive to buy its light strips and Govee’s features are actually more extensive and customizable even though it is cheaper than Hue. The overhead can lights are Philips Hue so they coordinate with the Hue system which matches the signal the Govee is reading for its own lights control. Or you can set up a dual Govee - Philips Hue system like I have. If you buy other Govee wifi lights that are Dreamview capable, you can extend the color and light farther into your home. Then if you want strip lighting extending around it on the wall like I have you'll want something like this, which has two strips (they can only be controlled together) and you connect them wirelessly to the camera through a Govee app feature called Dreamview.

Combining both sets of TV strips offers different features and strengthens the light when you combine features. I have that combined with a Philips Hue sync box, bridge, and TV strip lighting. Get this OLED TV light strip/camera combo to set up ambient lighting around the TV. I was asked what I used in my setup by PM so here are the details. Lol I just like it this way and especially enjoy this setting while drunk or high. If you have any questions about setting up any of these systems let me know! And if you absolutely hate this level I understand. I’ve created a clubbing-at-home video bonanza room and it is everything I ever wanted

This is all in addition to my Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 Klipsch Reference Premiere 8000F/500-c series tower speakers and JBL sub with Polk surround tower speakers. Or doing just video mode on both for trippy ambient lighting during watching a movie. Or making both music mode and having all lights pulse to music. Using Govee + Hue Lights together: If I mix up which one is on video mode or music it can create some amazing effects, like pulsing light to music while extending the onscreen video/lights onto the wall.

So dramatic I basically need to keep it at medium settings for my own sake and take video to capture the full effect. Needless to say, this also has a music and video mode too. This controls all the lights in the room based on the image on screen.

I have these but I also got Philips Hue Lights and a Hue TV light strip and a sync box to route the exact TV image to a hue light bridge. They can extend the light and image of the TV onto the wall, creating a “larger than life” experience, or they can do different animations based on a microphone hearing musical beats. A camera over the TV points at the screen, captures its image live, and projects the average color light of its several domains onto the light strips behind the TV. I laced them with pink garland since I love pink and to make the lights and shadows pop around a silhouette. I’ve installed Govee strips around the wall of my living room framing my LG G1 77” OLED. I’ve set it up to also feel like an immersive visual experience and a dance club whenever I feel like it. But I LOVE IT and that’s all that matters haha and I had to share my setup. He’s very sensitive with light and sound. For my husband it’s too visually stimulating.
